CSE: Lebanon Horse Drawn Carriage Parade 6 December

December 6

We are right around the corner from the annual Lebanon Horse Drawn Carriage Parade.

We are looking for amateur radio volunteers to assist with basic safety communications during one or both of the parades on December 6th.

  • 1pm Parade
  • 7pm Parade

Please see the job description below and use the included link to sign up for this event.

This is a popular event and whereas we require a lot of support, we tend to receive that support.

Sign up as early as you can commit to this opportunity.

We will close registrations once we have comfortably filled all required spots.

Our Job:

We provide safety support. Horses are unpredictable. There have been no major horse related incidents in the past, but we must be prepared. Please remind the crowd to give the horses plenty of room. People will try to sit on the curb or in the street. This is dangerous as they cannot move out of the way if a horse were to get loose. Please ask spectators to stand to watch the parade.

We are not a first responder organization; we do not have authority to force a spectator to change their behavior. We can ask a spectator to follow recommended practices and we can report concerns with safety.  Do not put yourself in a position of danger or altercation for any reason.

If someone in the crowd has a medical or other problem, we can ask for an ambulance. We will have an operator in the Police and Fire dispatch center who can immediately contact public safety help. The best way to cover the parade is to walk along the side of the road near your assignment. You can walk in the roadway, but give the horses room. We are providing a liaison communicator with the leadership team for this event. This person’s job is to work with the event leadership to ensure open communication and knowledge between their team and ours.

Volunteers from the Ohio Horseman’s Council (OHC) will be stationed on each block of the parade route. These volunteers are wearing green vests. They are experienced horsemen and can assist with handling horses if needed.
