Amateur radio not only provides a way for citizens to communicate for their own safety but a way for them to assist others when cell phones and other communication systems fail or are overloaded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">For those interested in obtaining an FCC amateur radio license, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gcares.net\/wp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greene County Amateur Radio Emergency Service<\/a> (GCARES) is offering three Amateur Radio license classes <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">starting Sunday, September 17, 2023<\/span><\/strong>. The classes will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. each Sunday through <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">November 12th<\/span>. A test for all classes of licenses will be given <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">November 19th at 6 p.m<\/span><\/strong>. in the Community Room at <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/LwSHr7eyYBCSTPJY6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beavercreek Township Fire Station 61<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">There is no charge for the classes and Morse Code is no longer required to obtain any amateur radio license. The classes are supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/bellbrookarc.org\/wp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bellbrook Amateur Radio Club<\/a> (BARC), the Upper Valley Amateur Radio Club (UVARC) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/xwarn.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xenia Weather Amateur Radio Network<\/a> (XWARN) in addition to GCARES.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">The entry level <strong>Technician Class<\/strong> course will be held in the Bellbrook Amateur Radio Club Clubhouse, Room 1,<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/MjusV3K6cnpwNqaJ7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Sugarcreek Elementary School, 51 South East Street in Bellbrook<\/a>. No experience is required and there is no minimum age required to earn a Technician Class license.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">The <strong>General Class<\/strong> course and the Test Session will be held in the Training Room at <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/LwSHr7eyYBCSTPJY6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beavercreek Township Fire Station 61 located at 2195 Dayton-Xenia Road<\/a> just west of Orchard Lane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">The <strong>Extra Class<\/strong> course will be held in the Training Room at <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/8sAa2L5BcN8UoPHS9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fairborn Fire Station 2 located at 2200 Commerce Center Blvd<\/a>. just south of Dayton-Yellow Springs Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">To register for a course or for more information, please contact Bob Baker, N8ADO, by email at <a href=\"mailto:n8ado@woh.rr.com\">n8ado@woh.rr.com<\/a> or Jim Gifford, KD8APT, BARC Secretary at <a href=\"mailto:kd8apt@gmail.com\">kd8apt@gmail.com<\/a>. To pass the Technician Class examination, at least 26 questions from a 35 question written examination must be answered correctly.
